What Colors Mean Emotionally

Yellow expresses warmth and optimism.

Red conveys excitement and boldness.

Blue illuminates into strength and trustworthiness.

Orange brings out cheerfulness and friendliness.

Violet expresses creativity, imagination and wisdom.

Green offers a sense of peace and growth.

Gray is a color that offers balance.

To understand hues, tints, tones and shades, the above color wheel will help put it into perspective. Do not worry. These are easier than you think to learn.

All a hue is is a pure primary color. There are only three. They are yellow, blue and red.

Understanding tint is even easier. Take white and mix it with a primary color, such as red. The more white that is added the lighter the red becomes. Red can become a light red, to deep pink or a light pink, for example. Yellow and blue will react in the same way to white.

If gray is mixed with one of these primary colors, this is called tone. All variations can occur depending on the tint, tone and or shade.

Have you ever noticed a beautiful dark red or blue? Mix black together with a primary color and this is what happens; a rich shade of the primary color.

A Basic Color Wheel
